如果有更好的點子，我們會說「與其⋯不如⋯」、「還是⋯」來提出建議，這時英文就可以用 instead 或 instead of。今天就帶你一次搞懂這類句型要怎麼用！

instead of

instead of 有「與其⋯不如⋯ 」、「而不是」等意思，後面會接被取代的選項，可以放在句首或句中。

⚠️ instead of 後面要接名詞或動名詞 (V-ing)

例句：

She decided to walk instead of taking the bus.

他決定走路，而不是搭公車。

We stayed home instead of going to the beach because it rained.

因為下雨，我們沒有去海邊，而是待在家裡。

Instead of fighting, they tried to solve the problem calmly.

他們沒有爭吵，而是冷靜地解決問題。

如果前面已經提到被取代的選項，就可以用 instead 提出替代方案，表示「還是」、「反而」，使用時會放在句首或句尾。

例句：

Let’s watch a movie instead.

我們還是看電影吧。

Instead, he chose to save his money for a trip.

相反地，他選擇把錢存起來去旅行。

I thought he would be angry. Instead, he laughed.

我以為他會生氣，結果他卻笑了。
